7 REASONS WHY MR. SILANYO SHOULD BE ELCETED PRESIDENT ON 29 MARCH 2009

1. First and foremost, as a cabinet member of the government that was formed right after the military coupe in 1969, Ahmed Silanyo was known to be one of the few Northern Ministers who dared to say "NO" to Siyad Barrre’s ill-fated aggression.

2. Secondly, Ahmed Silanyo was one of the few Northern political leaders who quit the Siyad Barre’s Regime when it became clear that the nation’s political direction was in the wrong hands. Others , including most of the faces obvious in the current UDUB Ministers had stayed on and kept nodding to the instructions of the evil leadership to the last day – just look around.

3. Thirdly, Siyanyo was the longest reigning chairman of the SNM Movement. Admittedly, his performance then was and remains to be controversial, depending on whom do you talk to. However, Mr. Silanyo had never sold the cause of his people despite the tremendous temptation and continuous attempts made by the late dictatorship.

4. Moreover, a good number of the SNM military commanders who were against Silaniyo leadership those days, have sine come back to him and joined the political party that he has founded. Strangely enough, many of the military and political leaders who were in his favor at the time of the struggle and supportive of his ideas are now critical of Mr. Silanyo and Kulmiye Party. This is a clear indication that Mr. Silanyo was always the centre of truth and wisdom of our leadership for more than Quarter of a Century.

5. Mr. Silanyo had lost the election of SNM Chairmanship in the Baligubaleh Congress of 1989. However, after almost 20 years, he remains committed to the cause of his people. His faith in Somaliland and its people was never shaken; whereas others were quick to join any of the scores of the so called National Conferences that were held to reconcile the Mogadishu Warlords. It is worth asking ourselves here; how long will Mr. Riyaale and his crew of Ex-NSS agents turned ministers would remain committed to the cause of Somaliland once they have lost the upcoming elections.

6. Mr. Silanyo commands the necessary education background, leadership track record, and the political experience needed to address the daunting situation and the pressing issues facing this nation. His credentials are not matched by any of his contenders.

7. Lastly, Mr. Silanyo has established and single-handedly erected the pillars of Kulmiye, the National Party that has come up with a meaningful political and social agenda for this Nation going forward.
